This was our second time supporting Autofed at the TWF, except this time it was mid-winter and the venue was looking pretty gloomy. Nevertheless, it was one of our best shows to date. We had a good soundcheck and everything was working excellently; the drum set up was pretty much pefect for me and sounded great. We also decided to change our set a bit for some variety, although we ended up with a fairly similar set with a les effective end. We started as usual with Out of Reach, which kick-started our set and got the crowd going, and then went into New Dawn which was positioned quite well in the set. Despite being our weakest songs, Truth and Lies and Crash and Burn worked well and Crash and Burn looks to be a hit with our fans.
When we can get enough new material learnt, it's unlikely these songs will be played live, which is a shame becasue I think they are decent songs. We also decided to play our Cadillac cover by Mest for the first time in almost a year, to mark our return to TWF and to please "Mae Harris".
The set finished strongly, except ending with This Twisted Dream didn't work as effectively as Awake, so we're likely to revert back to that as a finisher in the future. Awake itself was again the highlight of the set, if not for the instrumental virtuosity, then the super gnarly addition of Faye to the proceedings; her siren-like vocals bewitched listeners with her deep and evocative style. Overall, we played an excellent show, and a promoter even came up to Andy after our set to get contact information. Sadly however, this was Brownie's last show with Slag Munky and he ended his SM career on a high.
We were 2nd of 3 bands that night, supporting our good friends Autofed and we played for the first time with Hydrophonic:
Hydrophonic - For a recently formed band, these guys were pretty good. They were pretty PPP but with a more rock edge; they did a cover of Lithium by Nirvana. Their instrumentals were good, and they used backing vocals to good effect.
Autofed - Autofed played a 50 minute set packed with new material which sounded great. The new songs were complemented by crowd favourites such as 'Art of War' and 'All This Time', which all went down well.
