We have recorded some songs using Cool Edit Pro 2 / Adobe Audition, which I recomend for rough demos (Official Site).
We had also had planned to record with mypetme drummer Malcolm, who is fairly cheap and does an amazing job - a far better option than recording at Scream Studios.
